Missionary Formation Week: A Sacred Encounter and Evangelizing Journey
The Missionary Formation Week is a 7-day immersive experience—a sacred encounter with Jesus in the Eucharist and a transformative journey into the heart of missionary discipleship. Rooted in the rhythm of prayer, preaching, and community life with the Franciscan Friars, this mission forms evangelists who are bold, compassionate, and Spirit-led.
Participants are immersed in:
Daily Eucharistic Adoration and Liturgical Prayer, following the Franciscan Friars’ spiritual rhythm.
Preaching formation talks and practical workshops that awaken the voice of the Gospel within.
Creative evangelization activities that invite participants to experience and share the faith in non-traditional, Spirit-filled ways.
Service and solidarity with the poor, grounding the mission in humility and love.
This week builds a strong foundation of prayer, fraternity, and Gospel-centered action, creating the ideal environment to nurture effective evangelist preachers. The ultimate goal is to empower missionary disciples to return to their communities renewed, equipped, and ready to proclaim Christ with clarity, conviction, and joy.
The Missionary Formation Week is an 8-day immersive mission experience and an encounter with Jesus in the Eucharist. It is complemented by preaching formation talks and activities designed to help participants experience the faith in non-traditional ways. Alongside practical preaching courses, a strong foundation of prayer, service to and solidarity with the poor, and community life is established. This creates the ideal environment for nurturing effective evangelist preachers. Participants receive formation talks and engage in the Franciscan Friars’ daily prayer schedule. The primary goal of the Missionary Formation Week is to empower potential evangelists to better serve their Church and communities.
Participants are invited to experience a 'taste' of mission life, including bucket showers, and simple meals of rice and beans each day while living in a community. Our program is centered around the Catholic-Christian view of the human person, created with dignity and for love. We demonstrate our commitment to these values by serving the poor at the friars' homeless shelter and participating in "Jesus runs" to pray with and provide food and drink to homeless individuals. By emphasizing service to those in need, we aim to foster a deeper understanding of the relationship between personal faith and self-gift, and to learn to love authentically.
Our goal is to help participants realize their inherent dignity and cultivate a life of flourishing through prayer, community, and service. With this newfound sense of purpose, individuals are naturally inspired to share their gift of faith with those around them and become "missionary disciples" (Pope Francis, 2013). At the end of the program, participants are asked to develop an action plan outlining how they will apply their preaching skills in their own communities. They will provide updates on their progress to the Preaching Program Director. The course is offered bilingually or with simultaneous translation, depending on the audience.
